Romania and Germany Pictures in Schoolbooks from 1933 to 1944
Keywords:
Deutschland, Rumänien, Nazi-ZeitAbstract
The German and Romanian schoolbooks of European geography and history of the 1930s and 1940s were affected in a nationalistic way and considered political and ideological instruments. Through nationalism Germany attempted to start and legitimate a war of revenge and enforce its power over the whole world, whereas the young Romanian state tried to consolidate itself through the same means. The schoolbooks add to the clichés attributed to both states that were available in travel literature from that era. Germany took notice of Romania only for strategic and economic reasons. Romania, however, admired Germany for its achievements in economics, agriculture and culture.Downloads
