The Balkanology in Berlin in Teaching and Academic Research and the Zeitschrift für Balkanologie
Abstract
This article is dedicated to the history and the activities of the Institute of Balkan Studies at the Freie Universität in Berlin, which was founded in 1960. The author of the article was part of the institute for almost two decades – as student, scientific assistant and researcher. She describes the contents of balkanology which was developed and taught at this institute and its interdisciplinary methodology conceived by her teacher, Professor Dr. Norbert Reiter. His concept was realized in teaching and research on Balkan linguistics and Balkan ethnology as well as in the journal Zeitschrift für Balkanologie, edited by the author.
