The Importance of the Balkan Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences for the Development of Southeast European Research
Abstract
For the beginnings of Balkan linguistics in Europe, the Balkan Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, founded 3 February 1897, has had a central, yet largely unrecognised significance with the writings of leading scholars published since then. The series of its publications had a tradition of more than one hundred years until its final issue which appeared in 2012.
