Simple Truths about Spiritual Salvation (Monastir 1909). The first pamphlet of Albanian Protestantism
Abstract
This article examines the first known Albanian Protestant brochure Të vërteta të fillme për shpëtimn’ e shpirtit (Monastir, 1909), in its historical, philological, and linguistic dimensions. Situating the brochure within the broader context of Albanian Protestant history, the study traces three key phases of Protestant activity from early Bible translations to the emergence of a consolidated evangelical community. Particular attention is given to the Kyrias family’s pivotal role and the cultural milieu of Monastir. The brochure’s linguistic features are analyzed, including dialectal and orthographic aspects of early 20th-century Northeast Tosk, and highlights the significance of this document as a rare example of Albanian Protestant textual heritage. The study concludes by emphasizing the brochure’s value not only as a religious text but also as an important artifact in the history of Albanian written culture.
