About the Journal

Although in today’s world there is near limitless access to information and almost complete freedom of travel, Southeastern Europe, especially its Balkan part, is a region which, in Western Europe, remains the preserve of specialists and is still only vaguely known to the public at large. The reverse is also true, of course; and so is how much the peoples of southeastern Europe know about one another. The underlying longer-term forces that help drive current trends and events in this region need to be studied in all their complexity, the better to understand how they came about. The Journal of Balkanology is intended to serve as a forum for all of this.
